(Excerpts from Pastor Taiwo Bolodeoku’s message at the last Sunday service)

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men” Philippians 2:7.

Jesus is our role model, worthy of emulation Philippians 2:5-7. He had the qualification to make Him God, but He did not think this equality was something to be eagerly grasped. He had a choice, but decided to become like one of us and was born a human.

Your reputation is what you are known for, your status. Jesus stripped Himself of all privilege for the sake of our salvation; this is the same type of attitude we should have, and it is a thing of the mind.

Whatever you are and have is from God. Psalm 100:3, 1 Samuel 16:7 your heart matters to God. Matthew 5:8, Matthew 15:8. It is not just about the actions. Amos 5:21-23 your mind is your heart. Our hearts must be changed. 1Corinthians 15:10, Romans 9:13-16, Ephesians 2:8. We are saved by grace, not our actions. Salvation is a free gift of God.

James 4:6 God resists the proud. Humility qualifies us for grace, which is unmerited favour. How humble are we? We need to check our hearts. Jesus had a true heart of service. He came to serve and to help. John 15:13 it is by the love of God that we can be humble, serve, and lay aside our reputations.

Mark 10:45, Matthew 22:35-39 love is the greatest commandment. Is the love of God in your heart? Your giving to the Lord is sacrifice. God sees when we genuinely serve.
