Worship & Music

by Segunfunmi

The genre, style, and rhythmic patterns of music are not a determinant of worship. Music in itself is not the worship, but a tool or means by which worship can easily be exercised or expressed. Music is just the combination of rhythm, melody and harmony to produce sounds, but its subject is what makes the difference.

Ephesians 5:19 “speaking to yourselves in psalms, hymns. and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the lord”

The words and expressions that stem out of the heart via the lips consciously directed to God alone forms the component of worship.

Job 33:3 says “my words come from an upright heart; my lips sincerely speak what I know.”

Any kind of music that diverts the heart to another subject other than God is not worship. Worship songs /music are ones that create a reflective and meditative atmosphere on the awesomeness and different dimensions of God. Worship is a lifestyle and not a weekly event which is expressed not only through music, but also in our day to day acts.

John 4:21-24 represents the user manual for anyone who delights in worshipping God the Almighty. 23 says” but the hour cometh and now is when the True Worshippers shall Worship THE FATHER in spirit and in Truth: for the father seeketh such to worship him.”

The only worship true to God and God alone is worship by the help of Holy spirit and the Truth which is Jesus Christ the Son of God.

A psalmist says

“I’ll bring You more than a song

For a song in itself

Is not what You have required

You search much deeper within

Through the way things appear

You’re looking into my heart

Chorus

I’m coming back to the heart of worship

And it’s all about You

It’s all about You, Jesus

I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it

When it’s all about You

It’s all about You, Jesus.”

Shalom.
